Growing up with my peers, we used to marvel at the beautiful sight of the effigy that is erected at the centre of the playground of Idomi. Suffice to say that the word βPlaygroundβ means Lukpal, in Yakurr dialect. Curious to know, we wondered who of what was being used for that monumental object. So beautifully made, our curiosity made us ask questions until we got the desired answer.
Though, not many may know who/what is being used to portray that effigy, it is noteworthy that the person who the sculpture was made to signify is the oldest or longest reigning king of Idomi, who ruled for many decades, before joining his ancestors.
Obol (King) Ubangha Abai. Obol Ubangha Abai is the longest reigning king of the land of Idomi, in the 21st century. A bona fide son of Lekpankom compound, his reign began when his predecessor, Obol Obla Ebri of Kekowa compound, whose reign spans between 1899 to 1943 joined his ancestors. He then took over from him, in the year 1943 down to the year 1984, making a total of 41 years in the throne.
Being the longest reigning king of the land, Obol Ubana Abaiβs reign brought so many fortune to the land of Idomi. And it is said that he was a shrewd king who handled issues like the notable and biblical King Solomon. During his reign, Obol Ubana Abai ensured there was absolute Peace and harmony, in the land, and everyone lived in peace with one another.
As a king who lived for over four decades and ruled his people with absolute kindness and open-heartedness, there couldn't be a better way to commemorate his reign on earth than erect his image in form of an effigy.
