THE LINE OF PROFESSORS IN IDOMI
IDOMI CURRENT AFFAIRS - PART ONE
(THE LINE OF PROFESSORS IN IDOMI)
Do you know that over the years, particularly in this century and the last, Idomi has produced and birthed so many professors? I mean, professors whose names ring a bell, not just mere professors or backyard professors. Now, it is noteworthy that these professors have in one way or another held prestigious posts in their areas of studies. They've also made names that will be long before it'll be trampled upon. Follow me...
1. Professor Mbeh Ubana Eteng: Professor Mbeh Ubana Eteng, also know as the Defender of the Gospel, is the first professor from Idomi. He's been in the professorial world over decades and have held so many posts in the University of Calabar, Calabar, Cross River State. Prof. Mbeh Ubana Eteng is also the very first professor from Idomi to ever deliver a university inaugural lecture, in the University of Calabar, Calabar and he's also the first Idomian professor to deliver convocation lecture. By reason of enthusiasm and experience, he was sub Dean of faculty, basic medical Sciences. He was also the head of department of biochemistry, and other prestigious posts in the citadel, including being the chairman of committee of Deans, Unical and AG Vice Chancellor, where he used his office to offer employment to so many. This man is a goldfish to/in Idomi and it'll take centuries for his name to be effaced from the minds of Idomians(which is why there's every need for the creation of Hall of Fame, because posterity will be very unfair to our generation, if people like this are forgotten, simply because yabaekeh).
2. Professor Arikpo Ikpi Okoi(Late): Late Prof. Arikpo Ikpi Okoi, the uncle to the intelligentias: Dr. Ntongha Eni Ikpi and Dr. George Eni Ikpi, was a botanist. His field of study was entirely on plant pathology and he tutored in the University of Cross River State, UniCross. Prof. Ikpi as he used to be called, before his demise, was a professor of distinction. He has, by reason of his personality, held so many positions in the University, and was an external examiner in so many universities across the nation. His course of study was in the department of Biological Sciences, in the same University of Cross River State, UniCross. Ow! Indeed, lọseh lozibong. He's from Kekomkolae compound, Idomi.
3. Professor William Ofem Nkanu: Prof. William Ofem Nkanu is a rare gem. An Okom product, who rose to the rank of a professor way back. His course of studies is in the department of Library and information sciences, University of Cross River State, UniCross, Cross River State. He also has held so many positions in the institution and has been a preacher of Peace.
4. Professor John Ofem Inyang: Prof. John Ofem Inyang is an astute and devoted man of God, who's currently an elder in the Presbyterian church of Nigeria, St John's Parish, Kekowa, Idomi. Not only is he an elder in the Lord's vineyard; he is also an ardent politician who have at least held so many appointments and ranks in the political circle, including being the former commissioner for lands and urban development, etc. And, amidst other walks of life he's into, Prof. John Inyang is an educationist and academician who's currently heading the department of philosophy, in the University of Calabar, Calabar, Cross River State. He's an indigene of Kekowa compound.
5. Professor Mercy I. Obeten: Professor Mercy Obeten is a professor of Federal University, Lafia, Nasarawa State, Nigeria. She's been in the tertiary pedagogical world for decades and have since, held different positions, by reason of her enthusiasm and passion for education. She hails from Otalosi compound, Idomi.
6. Professor Dodeye Uduak Williams: Professor Dodeye Uduak Williams is a professor, in the University of Calabar, under the department of Political science, peace and conflict studies. As one who has so much passion for education, she rose to the rank of a professor few years ago and she couldn't have achieved that feat, if she were a dullard in the field. She hails from Lekpankom compound, Idomi.
7. Professor Monday Bassey Ubana (MBU): Professor MBU, as he's generally called is a professor of educational psychology, in the department of educational administration and planning, University of Lagos, UNILAG. Prof. Mbu hails from Egbizum compound, Idomi.
Ultimately, just as we have the aforementioned professors, who through hardwork, consistency, resilience and determination got to that level, that is how we have a handful of them, associating other departments, and who before long, will become professors of their own. Numerically, we have Associate professor Isaac Ubi, from Kekomkukuli compound; Associate professor Dr. Kommomo Ibor Eyong, from Egbizum compound and Associate professor Dr. Eyong Michael Eteng who hails from Kekowa compound, all of Idomi.
Conclusively, an average Olomi (One who's from Idomi) has natural taste and delight, for education, and they're used to striving and vehemently pressing on, and making sure they achieve whatever feat they want to achieve. Before long, more and more professors will emerge, as we already have so many academic doctors who are too too numerous to mention.
My name is Pearl Ernest, and I wish to be like these great men, in my own generation, Obase wontonghai nọkamkeh. 🌺
