ILOMI OKPOROKU

Idomi is an ancient town, widely regarded as the first settlement of the Yakurr people. Rich in culture and tradition, the people of Idomi are deeply rooted in their heritage and hold their customs in high esteem.

Traditionally, Idomi practices a monarchical system of government, where an Obol serves as the king, assisted by his subordinates and traditional prime ministers, who are dialectically referred to as Yatutuwae-Bol. The language spoken by the people of Idomi is Lokaa, which is also the general language of the indigenous Yakurr people.

Geographically, Idomi is located in the central part of Cross River State, Nigeria. It is situated in Yakurr Local Government Area, specifically in the eastern part of the local government. Historical records suggest that Idomi has existed since around 1600 AD.

Idomi spans a vast landmass and shares borders with several communities, including Ugep, Abini, Agoi, Mkpani, and Adim. Its geographical coordinates are Latitude: 5° 45' 34" N, Longitude: 8° 5' 23" E (Decimal: 5.75951, 8.08975).
