History was made on the 6th day of December, 2024, as the king of Idomi, Obol Ofem Inah Edet, travels to Idomi's sister-community (Ugep) to perform some rites as the newly coronated king of the land of Idomi. It is noteworthy that the king ascended the enviable throne of Idomi some time, in 2023, after the passing of his predecessor, Obol Ibor Eteng Iferi (Late).

As vital as this procession is, it is noteworthy that amongst the processional rites of becoming a king of Idomi, this very one is as crucial as the throne itself, as it reflects and reminds the people of Idomi of the ancient bond that binds us together as one people.

Apparently and historically, once a person is chosen to become a king in the land, and after undergoing the entire process cum procedural stages of becoming one, months after he is shown to the entire town as the new king of the land, he, together with some chiefs of the land and some gigantic men who are in the Kozaw cultural troupe, will march to Umor (Ugep) to carry out some rites.

This same thing is done in another of our sister-community called Mkpani. After the king may have been done with Umor, he'll fix a date that will be feasible for him, to travel to Mkpani for the same occasion, as it is the status quo of the tradition of the land, ab aeterno.

While on his way to Umor, the king, as earlier stated, will be accompanied by some able men of the land, who are in the Kozaw cultural troupe; these men would tie their traditionally woven wrapper, called Owala, as seen in the video. While moving, two men would be in front, followed by the Okpebiri, otherwise known as the second in command, after the Obol Lopon, and then the king will follow, having some men on his left-hand side and some, at the right-hand side.

They would march as infantrymen from the throne, straight to Umor, in order to adore the gods of the land and also seize the opportunity to assuage the minds of the forebears, who are long gone, in a bid to plead for forgiveness of any misstep that may be taken, in the cause of ruling the land. He will also ask for their unwavering direction and support, to be able to rule the land with equity and fairness, and also make sure there's absolute tranquility and Peace, in all the nooks and crannies of the land.

Ordinarily, when the king embarks on this journey, he is expected to temporarily serve as the king of the land where he's traveled to, ruling in stead of their king, play the entire role of their king, and for that short period, serve as an intermediary between the gods and the people of the land where he's traveled to. But, in this particular travel, the king will not be entering Umor Otutu, due to an unprecedented anomaly.

Summarily, haven mentioned and also elucidated on the importance and reason for this travel, it is noteworthy that this part of the procedural stages of being a king of the land is very essential as it automatically enables the king to henceforth travel to Umor, without fear of any sort. But, whereby he ascends the throne and refuses or delays or haven't done this part, he is therefore not expected to travel to Umor, unless he's ready to face the uncannily and merciless wrath of the gods. 🌺
