𝗤𝗨𝗜𝗖𝗞𝗦𝗬𝗟𝗩𝗘𝗥 𝗘𝗡𝗜 𝗢𝗞𝗢𝗜 𝗔𝗡𝗗 𝗛𝗢𝗣𝗘 𝗜𝗪𝗔𝗥𝗔 𝗢𝗞𝗢𝗜: 𝗧𝗪𝗢 𝗚𝗢𝗟𝗗𝗙𝗜𝗦𝗛𝗘𝗦 𝗪𝗛𝗢𝗦𝗘 𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗦𝗘𝗡𝗖𝗘 𝗔𝗦 𝗠𝗥/𝗠𝗜𝗦𝗦 𝗟𝗘𝗕𝗢𝗞𝗨, 𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗢𝗗 𝗔𝗦 𝗠𝗨𝗦𝗘 𝗧𝗢 𝗠𝗔𝗡𝗬, 𝗜𝗡 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗝𝗨𝗦𝗧-𝗖𝗢𝗡𝗖𝗟𝗨𝗗𝗘𝗗 𝗜𝗗𝗢𝗠𝗜 𝗡𝗘𝗪 𝗬𝗔𝗠 𝗙𝗘𝗦𝗧𝗜𝗩𝗔𝗟.
The just concluded Idomi New Yam Festival, which kick-started on Wednesday, the 25th of September, through 28th of the same September, was irrefutably and undoubtedly the creme de la creme, in the entire history of Idomi New Yam Festival.
The festival which has its essence as the thanksgiving to the god of fertility for a bountiful and beautiful harvest, was majorly graced by the distinguish son and daughter of the land, in person of Hope Iwara Okoi, a political atago cum scientist, whose inclination for his culture has, overtime, been widely noticed and laudable. Hope, a native of Idomi, Okom community to be precise is currently handling his PPA as a youth corper, serving the nation.
As busy as Mr. Hope is, he took it upon himself to travel down, contest for Mr. Leboku, a revered office and position in the history of Idomi New Yam Festival, and as nature and God would have it, he went through the difficult and procedural stages of becoming Mr. Leboku and eventually emerged the winner, even in the midst of many sons of the land who are well abreast with the culture of the people, who contested for the same position.
On the other hand, just as an entire empire would not be complete without a queen, Hope had with him, the brightest star, who stood as his temporal queen and saw to the success and visibility of the festival, from the beginning to the end. She's by name, Quicksylver Eni Okoi.
Quicksylver Eni Okoi, a proficient make-up artist who hails from Idomi, Okom community to be precise is also a communitarian to a fault, who stood her ground and made sure the just concluded festival reaches its zenith, serving as the Miss Leboku. Quicksylver, a graduate who runs a mini make-up company in Port Harcourt, traveled down, despite her day-to-day busy schedules as a professional make-up artist and made sure the festival wore a new look, assisting and accompanying the Mr Leboku, who together, made sure the festival got to every corner of the world.
Even as a little peachy lady, Quicksylver participated in the wearing of Liman (copper bangles) and not just any type of bangles, she went for the most adorable and heaviest of them (the gold-colored type). The roles these two played in the festival can not be overstretched or overemphasized. They made sure their presence were felt in all the nooks and crannies of the town, thereby standing as ubiquitarians.
In conclusion, the role these two quintessential personalities played in the just concluded Idomi New Yam Festival taught me so much about being a communitarian. Even as their muse, I learnt to be effortlessly and unapologetically inclined to the culture of my people, not minding whose ox is gourd and I am urging you, the reader, to see your culture as the best in the world, just as the world sees it. 🌺
